Why this Blog Exists

This isn’t my first blog.

Others in my past have been less personal. Ten years ago, I started a lifestyle blog, sharing advice I learned through self-improvement books. I wasn’t consistent. Next, I made a blog about hitting 100 goals before I turned 40. Again, I wasn’t consistent, and the weekly updates were rather boring. Following that, I blogged about my goal of becoming a Pro Tour Champion in Magic the Gathering. I was far more consistent with that blog, but ultimately, I decided against pursuing that goal further after 3 years. I’m proud of that decision; it was not one of quitting.

Which brings us to this blog, one I’ve battled with starting for over a year.

I’ve made this to be an impersonal blog about my very personal journey.

It is a place where I can share my progress, my writing, and what I’ve learned. There is a hope that others will find what I share valuable as they embark on their own journeys.

My personal journey is one of self-mastery; a lifelong ideal of continuous effort to become the best version of myself. This is a broad vision, and for the purpose of what I want to share, it requires narrowing.

Our Main Focus

Creative Writing.

I loved books as a child and have rediscovered my passion for reading as an adult. I admire authors. I love great stories and have always wanted to tell my own.

Doing my own creative work checks so many boxes for fears and challenges I want to overcome. It’ll help with my fear of rejection and judgement, push me to remain focused on a project for long periods of time, and drive me to learn more about a craft that, in many ways, I do not fully understand.

Most importantly, it’s a creative outlet, and one that I feel plays on my strengths. Through daily effort, I’d like to see how much I can improve and what sort of stories I can share with the world.

Coincidentally, one of the ways to improve is through reading, something I enjoy and want to do more of.

Creative Writing represents my shadow, the parts of myself I’m afraid of facing. Pursuing this craft, and sharing my work, is my way of facing that shadow.

Other Focuses

I find it important not have too many goals or pursuits. Our time is limited, and more pursuits will only take away from our main focus.

However, I feel that one focus would leave us far too narrow. With proper organization, having a few can be healthy and allow for variety in our life.

I enjoy language and have always thought those who are multilingual have a better understanding of the world. A few months ago, I began studying Japanese. It’s one of the hardest languages to learn, but I love Japanese culture, and would love to experience more through understanding.

Additionally, I’m always pursuing a stronger and healthier body. I’ve run marathons, attempted a triathlon, and am currently working towards a one-month bodyweight challenge.

I’d love to share some of my journey in these pursuits as well. Each of them represents a different side of self-mastery and requires lifelong commitment.

Moving Forward

There is a lot I’d like say about what will come and what I’d like to share. However, I feel that it would be far better to simply do than to say.

For now, I’ll say that I hope you enjoy some of the creative work I share, and hope that there is something to gain from my personal posts. I’ll do my best to improve as much as I can.
